The National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev Ltd. (NIBN) was established
in 2007 by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the State of Israel, and the Late
Mr. Edgar de Picciotto as the first self-organized, independent research entity established
under the auspices of a University in Israel.
Located within Ben-Gurion University’s main campus in Beer-Sheva, the NIBN’s
activities have evolved over the years and today it serves as an R&D accelerator for
translational Bio-related projects at BGU. As such it fills a critical role in BGN’s mission
to promote applied research at BGU and commercialize the technologies
that are developed by this research.
Projects that are selected to enter the NIBN accelerator receive the support of NIBN’s
research infrastructure, including the possibility of financial grants, and a professional
R&D guidance and project management team.
In addition, all accelerator projects are accompanied by BGN’s IP and Business
Development teams to maximize their potential for eventual commercialization by BGN.
