At BGU, this visa is requested for those who have been officially invited by the Rector of the University, the Dean of one of the Faculties, or the head of one of the research institutes. Valid for up to 12 months with the possibility to be extended up to 63 months. This kind of visa is to be arranged prior to your arrival to Israel, by your host.

The decision to grant a temporary permit rests with the Ministry of the Interior.

Feel free to reach out to us at any time for additional information or clarification throughout the entire process of obtaining or extending your work permit and visa. We're here to help!

How to Obtain or Extend a B-1 Visa:

If this is your first time applying for a work visa at BGU, your inviting academic staff member must contact the Welcome Center to initiate the process of obtaining a work permit.

The work permit is the first step, and the B1 work visa is the second.

Please note that for your initial work permit and B1 visa, you must be outside of Israel.

The Welcome Center coordinators need to receive from you and your employer the following information and documentation:

Data:

  • Planned date of entry into Israel (dd/mm/yyyy format).
  • Period required for employment (from a specific date to a specific date).
  • Number of working hours per month.
  • Gross monthly salary in NIS.

Documents:

All documents must be sent to us in one email in PDF format only (each document in a separate PDF file).

  • A letter of necessity written by the employing faculty member: detailing and justifying the need for the employment of the international expert scientist and enclosed documents supporting the statements in the letter.
The letter must be written in Hebrew (the employee's name and passport number to be written in English as they appear in the passport). The letter is to be written on the University logo paper and to be addressed to the Permits Division of the Population and Immigration Authority.
The signature, stamp and contact details of the employing faculty member are required.
  • A copy of a valid passport (the passport must be valid for another six months past the expiration date of the requested permit).
  • Up-to-date CV
  • Diplomas, degrees and certificates, indicating education, qualifications, experience, reputation and/or expertise. Documents that are not in Hebrew or English must be translated to Hebrew and notarized.
  • A copy of a university payment order – approved, signed and stamped by the responsible budgeter, for the processing fee of the Permits Division – currently for total of 1390 NIS (please note, the Ministry of the Interior may update the fee and, in this case, a new payment order will be required).

The head of the department is required fill-in, sign and stamp the attached statement document.

When the Permits Division of the Immigration and Population Authority issues the work permit, we will provide detailed instructions for applying for a B1 work visa.

Once we have all the mentioned below documents and data, you will contact the embassy to arrange an appointment regarding your work visa.

If this is your first work visa, you will apply for it through the Israeli embassy abroad.

You need to inform us of the country and city of the embassy where you plan to apply for your work visa.

Your employer must provide us with the payment order approved, signed and stamped by the responsible budgeter, for the processing fee of the Permits Division – currently for total of 200 NIS (please note, the Ministry of the Interior may update the fee, and, in this case, a new payment order will be required).

Health insurance must be purchased before applying for the visa at the embassy.

Detailed instructions about obtaining health insurance will be sent to you and your employer after you receive your work permit.

The Welcome Center coordinators will assist you in every step and provide you with all necessary instructions regarding work visa.
