The Linguistics MA program at Ben-Gurion University offers either a thesis (research) track or a non-thesis (general) track, awarding an MA degree in Linguistics. Both are two-year programs, although completion of the MA degree can sometimes require three years.

Both tracks have three objectives:

To expose students to current research topics in the field;
To engage students in academic discourse, research methodologies, and critical reasoning;
To train students in academic writing and the use of professional literature.

Students in the thesis track also conduct original research and contribute to progress in the field.

Requirements for Registration

Applicants must have completed a BA in Linguistics with a grade point average of 85 or above (for the thesis track) or 80 and above (for the non-thesis track) from an accredited institution.

Applicants who do not have the requisite linguistics background will be required to complete a range of BA courses before they can be admitted as full-time MA students.

The graduate committee decides on a case-by-case basis which courses these students must complete.

Scholarships & Funding

Scholarships for MA Students

The Department of Foreign Literatures and Linguistics offers MA students (registered in the thesis-track) a wide array of scholarships. Based on excellence and academic merit, these range from full tuition fees and/or monthly stipends - to smaller grants.

Scholarships for New Applicants

Pending budget approval, a limited number of scholarships is available each year for new outstanding students (with a BA average of 90 and above) who register for a thesis-track MA program in the department. Excellent applicants who are planning to register for the new academic year are encouraged to contact the Graduate Advisor for more details.
